Helen Watts
Development Manager
Helen joined the BANES Carers’ Centre in September 2021. Her work involves increasing our profile with local employers, public service providers, voluntary and community sector organisations and the wider general public. By engaging better with a larger number of local organisations we hope to enable a wider group of unpaid carers access to our support and well-being services.
Previously Helen spent 25 years’ working alongside refugees and migrants in a range of roles. More recently she completed some post-graduate studies at UWE, Bristol on intercultural communication and undertook research on how care is enacted linguistically between care workers and residents in dementia care settings.
She also cares for her mum, Veronica, 88 (and counting). Helen loves volunteering in her spare time with groups working for social justice, peace and international understanding. On her days off (!), she goes hill walking, especially on the Isle of Skye, her second home!
